Turning Risk into Success

SAGEGLOBAL Announces Release of New Course

“Turning Risk into Success: A Teen Entrepreneurship Program”

Turning Risk into Success”- TRIS- is a course consisting of 12 lessons that shows teenagers how to start their own business. This course helps teens create a business based on something they are passionate about. The business can be a commercial enterprise or a social enterprise. The lessons were created by Dr. Curtis L. DeBerg, an award-winning university professor. After taking the course, students are eligible to participate in a SAGE Regional or National Tournament. The course can only be taught by TRIS-Certified Master Teachers. To become a Certified Master Teacher, you must attend an intensive workshop.

Schools or after-school organizations can purchase an annual license to implement the course.

Students can purchase individual lessons on this website for only $5 per lesson. Students completing the course will receive a Certificate of Completion from California State University, Chico’s Center for Entrepreneurship.

A school and teacher can also buy the complete kit (see license). The kit includes a teacher’s manual and an instructor CD-ROM. This convenient supplement provides a copy of the lessons on a portable CD-ROM. Also on the CD-ROM are PowerPoint lessons for each lesson, Teacher/Trainer Manual (including solutions), sample quizzes for each lesson, and an assessment exam to be administered at the end of the course.

The teacher manual includes:

  • Lessons
  • Teaching Aides
  • Assessment Quizzes
  • Final Exam
  • PPT Lessons

During the TRIS program students will gain knowledge and skills that will help them become a successful entrepreneur, and a more confident person. We integrate computer skills like creating financial spreadsheets, doing research on the internet, and making PowerPoint presentations. TRIS lessons are very hands-on. Lessons are organized into four parts:

  • The Big Picture
  • Questions and Answers
  • Taking Action
  • What to Do Before the Next Lesson
